Education in Genetic Ethics
PI: Sara Tobin, Ph.D.
CO-INVESTIGATOR: Barbara Koenig, Ph.D.
FUNDER: NIH/University of Louisville
EDGE is a research ethics training program specifically tailored for researchers and other persons who work or have interests related to research in human genetics. The program is funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute of the National Institutes of Health (1 R25 HG02503). EDGE responds to the unmet needs of genetic researchers who desire subject-specific training in the ethical, legal and social implications of genetic research. Such training is unavailable in the format and method that our program will use. EDGE is a collaborative endeavor between the Institute for Bioethics, Health Policy, and Law at the University of Louisville, The Hastings Center in New York, the Stanford University Center for Biomedical Ethics, and Michigan State University's Office of Medical Education Research and Development. Our constituents include academicians, clinicians, laboratory practice professionals, genetic counselors, nurses and others involved in human genetics research, including persons who have been traditionally underrepresented in the field of research ethics.
